SKIES AND STARS

I know next to nothing about astronomy.  I know the sun "rises" in the morning and "sets" at night and that the moon and stars are out there somewhere.  When it is night time here, it is daylight in Australia.  We see the moon and stars, while they see the sun but no stars , but in 12 hours things are reversed.

It seems to me that we and the Australians see the same sky in our days and  nights as each other.  If this is true, there are half the stars in the sky which are never visible to us because it is daylight.  We are surrounded by stars but see only those which are visible when it is dark.

The only stars we hear about are the ones we can see. There must be others but I have never heard about them, have you?
