CHILDREN

For most of us, having a baby is one of the most exciting, happiest moments of our lives.  The miracle of the continuation of life through us, overwhelms us.  Holding and watching this miracle sleeping, smiling or studying your face is something you want never to end.

As they develop and grow, the miracle is even more wondrous as they begin to interact with us with a purpose.  Their ability to learn and tell the difference when you are playing or mean business, their sense of humor, is unexplainable but fun to witness.  Each day seems to bring new discoveries for them and for us.

Before you know it, in the blink of an eye, they are grown and smarter than you.  After years of PTA meetings, and sometimes meetings with the teacher or principal, you discover you're the parents of young adults who somehow have managed, almost without our noticing, to graduate from high school.  Your pride exceeds their relief to be "getting out".

There is no greater achievement in life than to have successfully raised a child.  Parents' pride in their children is sometimes annoying in conversation but unless you have done it yourself, you will never understand it.  Thank God for children.

Congratulations to the millions who graduated from high school this year but especially to Domenick and Lillian Carone.
