The Commandments remind us that there is but ONE God and warn us about false gods. At the time, the reference was to the common belief among many that separate gods ruled over different aspects of life. Today, it can be taken to mean the idolatry we see, especially among the young, of celebrities from all fields. If the same adoration directed at these "idols" were directed at Christ and the TRUE God, this world would be a different place.
Why is it that this trend of idolizing some humans, some of which could qualify as the scum of the Earth, is more powerful than the attraction to Christ, the real superstar? The answer is quite simple. Christ, his name and image. are confined to a narrow "audience" and there are powerful secular forces determined to eradicate religion from the places where exposure to religion might influence others to consider its value. The Churches have been silent too long! Unless religious voices become loud enough to be heard by everyone, this trend will continue. If anything could help unite churches again, it would be this threat.
Even at the price of being accused of being "militant", we have to expose more people, especially the young, to the religious truths which govern the world, even for those who are not aware of them now. PR makes people, events and products household words. We must do the same to restore a more tranquil environment for our families and to honor the true God and His Son.
