LAWS AND RULES

When you consider how many people from your local town, county, state and federal governments spend their lives passing laws, it is a wonder we are still able to breathe and move.  When you add that they have been doing it for about 250 years, without removing or reviewing most of them, it is more than a wonder, it is a freeking MIRACLE.  As long as we are paying people to legislate, they will feel compelled to legislate.  How else can they justify their existence?

Laws are generally specific to the conditions at the time.  When conditions change, the relevance or necessity for the law is gone, yet they remain "laws".  Even Supreme Court rulings, we find, are more ideological than an interpretation of their constitutionality yet they remain as precedents cited for conditions far removed from the original conditions.

Unless rules and laws are reviewed frequently and routinely for their relevance, we will still accumulate useless, inappropriate laws which in no way apply to current needs and conditions.  Hopefully, the USA will still be here a thousand years from now.  Can you imagine rules we make today still being useful then?

All rules and laws should have a limited lifetime, then reviewed and renewed or discarded.
