There are different opinions on whether or not all things are random or purposeful. If things in themselves have no purpose, then do we assign them a purpose? For example, is the apple tree here to provide food for us or do we eat the apple because it is here?
Plants are the only living things that do not subsist on some other living thing. Their nourishment is inorganic. But all other living creatures devour other living things. Was this the plan or is it some random discovery made by creatures at every level of the so-called "food chain"?
Without organic food of some kind, all living things except plants would perish . Could any life form have even come into being in the first place if there were not a mechanism in place that would insure their ability to survive? If life could not be sustained, where would the next generation come from?
If everything does not have a purpose, let's all be thankful for intelligent randomness.
