YOU CAN'T FOOL ME

People who make movies, especially haunted house type stuff, give me a real pain.  They must think we are complete idiots. All kinds of weird stuff is happening and aside from an occasional scream the reaction of the characters is unreal.

There was a black comedian who commented, "You can't make a movie like that about black people.  We'd be out of that house in a minute".  Did you notice that all those characters in the movie are white?

Let's see, you're in a house where you see ghosts, hear weird noises, doors slam, windows open and close and some guy walks through a wall and you hang around looking for an explanation.  GIVE ME A BREAK. It's mid-night, there's thunder and lightening and the power is out.  You hear a noise in the attic.  Get your flashlight and find out what it is.  Hello!  Get the hell out of there!  Even if the power is on, they never think to throw the switch.

I know I'm supposed to suspend my disbelief but this stuff is so bad that my disbelief is offended.  This kind of stuff in bad enough but when creatures start crawling in and out of every body orifice, I draw the line.  Even if they were normal sized and would fit it would be bad enough, but the things are so huge they would fill a football stadium.

I like a scary movie but like everything else it has to make sense.  The masters of suspense made great movies without insulting your intelligence.  Many of today's movies that are filled with foul language, violence and sex are testimonials to the lack of good story-telling writing.   British movies still tell great stories and I don.t have to suspend my disbelief.
