The current fiasco in Wisconsin in which duly elected representatives of ALL the people, not just those of their party, abandoned their posts, like an army deserter, to frustrate the democratic process they had sworn to uphold. I'm certain they believed it was a brilliant strategic maneuver but now that they have lost, blame and charge the opposition of performing in an undemocratic way. WHAT GALL!
The tactics employed by those Democratic senators amounts to fleeing in the face of the enemy. Knowing they would lose, they fled and refused to fight. They deserved to lose if for that reason alone. Their courage is limited to the brave statements they make to their party faithful. They can generate a lot of heat but no fire.
Every representative has a duty to do what he was elected to do: represent. When he fails in that duty without just cause, he should be stripped of compensation and perks for the time he is absent and censured for bad faith conduct. I would like to know who paid the bill for the lodging and feeding of those cowards while in hiding.
The protesters, whose only interest is in themselves, should be grateful they even have jobs. Collective bargaining is collectivism in which the individual loses his identity. All are one without regard to ability or value to the employer. It's much like quality, high end fashions not being able to charge more for their clothing than the bargain basement store. The slogan "equal pay for equal work" is meaningless unless the quality of the work is part of the equation.
Once again, I remind you that since the states' only source of money is taxes, every increase in pay and benefits for government workers results in a decrease in the income of the taxpayer.
