EUPHEMISMS

Euphemisms seek to conceal the true nature of something to make it appear to be less offensive or more palatable than it would normally be considered to be.  As an  example. in golf, when you have made a mess of a hole from the tee until you reach the green, when putting you succeed at making a 40 foot putt that had a four foot break, downhill,  the successful putt being the equivalent to "putting honey on s**t".  That is the ultimate definition  of a euphemism.

Euphemisms are used to minimize tragedy or to avoid embarrassment.  He "passed", no he didn't.  He died!  He "mis-spoke". No he didn't, he either lied or said something stupid! And the list goes on.

While well intentioned when used by someone about another person, when the person uses one in reference to an action of his, it is an act of lying without actually lying.  It's the truth with honey on it.
