As much as we marvel at today's technology and other scientific achievements, they were add-ons to a lot of knowledge accumulated over centuries of study. Who were the geniuses who did things first. The wheel was easy. Logs roll. I think I could have figured
that out.
Who built the first shelter? I don't mean a natural cave but something that had to demonstrate some engineering skill. Who made the first bread and how did they get the idea? Who made the first spear and bow and arrow? You get what I'm driving at. When there was little knowledge to build on, it was a lot tougher to invent or discover things. They had to be geniuses.
If some catastrophe struck which required each of us to start from scratch, who among us could reconstruct, let alone re-invent, the things we now take for granted? How many of us would know what to grow and how to process it to get what's needed to make bread? Who could build a generator? These are things we should all know more about, I don't believe berries and roots are on most lists for hearty meals. The first thing I'm going to do is find out how grow spaghett and tomatoes, and make wine.
This is not a scare piece but a call to appreciate what we do have and a desire to preserve it for our kids and theirs. We've seen what nature can do to nearly eradicate whole countries: earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tornadoes, floods and tsunamis. We should all learn some basic survival skills to stay alive until normalcy returns.
that out.
