We have a custom of celebrating special days most of which were promoted by marketeers as sales events. On the surface, they sound like a good idea anyhow but the implication is that those things being celebrated should not be a daily concern. Mothers' and Fathers" days are prime examples. There are others but these are the most prominent.
Most fathers couldn't care less about their day but mothers appreciate it more. Their enthusiasm for the day, in a way, reveals a hidden sense that the rest of the time their presence and contributions are not appreciated. Every day should be mother's day! Mothers are the backbone of our society. No family is complete without Mom and her influence on the character of her children cannot be overestimated. Show me a good mother and I'll show you a good family.
Others in our lives also deserve daily celebration. Good friends, those who provide all of us with the services and goods which make our lives easier and more fun. Most are unknown to us yet they do more for us than we acknowledge. What would our lives be like without them?
Look around you and find all those for which there should be special days and make every day a day of appreciation.
