The recent "hurricane" we experienced on the East Coast demonstrates how completely dependent upon electricity we are for nearly everything we do. Although most of our electricity comes from sources other than oil, all the work surrounding the production, maintenance and repairing failures requires he use of vehicles and equipment which rely upon oil and oil derivatives.
We have abundant resources to produce electricity and other energy dependent products and services yet we do not allow adequate use of our coal and oil. We "prefer" to let others supply our needs at high prices with American dollars flowing like oil to other countries. Are we nuts or what?
Because these oil producing countries we rely upon so heavily are politically fragile, we must "interfere" in their internal and foreign affairs to protect our vital interests. If they were to cut us off or price us "out of the market",our security, economy and general way of life would come to a halt. It is no wonder, since we are so dependent, that we sometimes find ourselves at war to protect our interests. When some say, "It"s all about oil", they are right. They should add, "It"s about survival".

There is almost nothing we do, use or own that does not involve the use of oil in some capacity. If you are willing to give that all up, you should demonstrate that feeling by eliminating all those things from your life. I'll bet you won"t.
