Just got back from lunch. My new, favorite place to eat is an "all you can eat" buffet. The food is good, plentiful and CHEAP. The best part is the "floor show". There is a parade of people who would delight any carnival fan.
The statistics indicate that obesity is a growing, so to speak, problem in America. I don't know about the rest of the world. While studying the variety of shapes and sizes of the other patrons, and feeling smug about my own, it occurred to me that even before the politicians get around to solving the Social Security and Medicare problems, the epidemic of obesity may do it for them. With life expectancy falling for the first time, in a few more years it may become what it was when SS was first introduced and 65 was "old age" and made sense.
While we are at it, Obama should subsidise more of these buffets to accelerate this solution. I'm joking, of course but it is no joke. A report on TV indicated that even airlines are having difficulty with weight restriction for the specifications of their planes. Even seat sizes will have to be enlarged and coffin makers are having to make larger sizes. If this continues, the coffins won't only have to be larger but there will be more of them.
