WHY DO BABIES CRY?

Babies cry for several reasons, but NEVER, as some seem to believe, for NO reason.  The obvious reasons are things which would make us cry too.  They are uncomfortable, have pain, are hungry, have diaper problems or want attention.  These all have solutions which are easy to implement but once you have applied the solution and they continue to cry, parenting becomes work.

Babies, who don't know they are supposed to obey us, take their own direction.  They want to do things their way.  Once they leave their caves, they feel their independence and will assert it every chance they get. Unless you are willing to let them know you are in charge, in every non-violent way you can think of, you are doomed to a living hell.

As difficult as it may be, the crying and tantrums have to be ignored, not rewarded.  Don't cave! Cry later.  You must prove you are stronger than they are, aren't you? The first time they win, you have lost forever. Once they beat you, they never forget that experience.  Independence dies hard.  It will return with a vengeance when they become teens.

Nothing destroys the joy of being a parent like an unruly child.  There may be some exceptions to what I've described above but unless you follow what I've described, you'll never know if yours was the exception or the victim of  "too much love".
