Yesterday, I commented on a FACEBOOK post by a , I'm guessing, YOUNG lady who posted a picture of a list of things Obama has PROMISED her and indicated that those were the reasons she would vote for him again. This gave me an idea for an exercise each of us can, and should, go through to examine where our attitudes really take us.
First, make a list of all the things you want government, other people, to do FOR you. If that list is very long, review each item to be certain you really want government to do that for EVERY citizen. When you've finished, make a list of all the things YOU would be willing to do FOR your government, other people, and decide if the country would be better off if EVERY citizen did those things.
The lists may surprise you. You may discover things about yourself which you never knew and can't really believe now.
Those who have the "GIMME's" find themselves less likely to become the "GIVVIE's. Stated a different way, those who do or would do MORE for their country expect LESS from it because they do what they do because their country has already done so much for them, that is, given them freedom and opportunity in a secure environment. It isn't always that you LOVE your country as it is that you love what it stands for as stated in the pre-amble and the Constitution itself.
If you can visualize a world without the United States (and the countries it has inspired to freedom), you would be seeing chaos which would make today's problems look like child's play. We should thank God, and those who believe in God, for founding this land of liberty.
