HEALTHY CHARITY

People in need have many government resources to assist them.  Generally, people who receive assistance from any source, are loyal to that source.  That is one reason why government should not be the source of "charity" because it is a tool of enslavement.  Many dictatorial powers have and continue to use food as a weapon.

Since we have developed a system of government assistance, let's use it for a good purpose, besides garnering votes.  The current system involves a variety of cash payments or vouchers for ordinary living in which the recipient has discretion in its use or, can illegally convert it to cash by "selling" some kinds of restricted use benefits.  Any thing which would ensure the use of benefits for their intended purposes would be a step in the right direction.

Any person receiving a benefit which is intended for the purchase of food but uses it in a legal or illegal way to use it for non-food purchases, or unhealthy foods or products, thwarts a well intended purpose.  Since our population, in general, exhibits a growing number of obese people, I think that instead of providing the food benefit in a way which allows for discretion or fraud, it should be provided by subscribing to a food service for each overweight recipient, such as Jennie Craig, to provide healthy meals.  This would reduce obesity and the health care costs associated with it and ensure that the benefit is used for its intended purpose.

There could still be fraud in this system since the meals could be sold for cash.  To detect this, recipients could be weighed randomly, like drug testing, to detect non-compliance.
