Companies hire people who have proven abilities to do whatever job they are hired for. In some low skilled jobs there may be a certain amount of "on the job" training. Anyone demonstrating they can't perform as required are, as they say, "let go".
In politics, anyone who wants to seek public office can do so if they meet certain legal requirements no matter what their qualifications are. Voters should not assume, therefore, that because a name appears on a ballot that the person is qualified to hold that office. It is up to the voter to find out. Voting for a candidate without investigation is incompetent voting for a possible incompetent candidate.
The biggest obstacle to good government are the two major political parties. This is true for two reasons. The first is that those affiliated with a party tend to vote for candidates of their party no matter what. These are sometimes referred to as "saints" and the other party as "sinners". This uninformed kind of voting is, to say the least, stupid and incompetent.
The second reason is the control the party apparatus has over those elected under its banner. Toe the party line or else! Those who try to exercise independent judgements are punished politically and personally. This system has turned many promising, honest officials into party robots. All this is common knowledge but we, the people, have little power to change it. It has to be changed from within and you know "it ain't ever gonna happen". They make the rules.
