ONE FOR THE OLD GUYS

Very few people know how to speak.  I don't mean what to say but how to say it.  Even people who speak for a living like TV personalities, news people, actors and actresses and even priests.  They talk too fast, mumble or "swallow" their words or don't project their voices.  These qualities in talkers have caused a lot of older people to be labeled "hard of hearing".  There would be fewer hearing aids walking the streets if people would learn to talk.

Another concern for some of us is the hand shake.  When we meet other people there are several traditional ways of acknowledging them. There's the buzz, a nod, semi-wave, wink and the dreaded hand shake.  When shaking hands with older people consider that they probably have arthritis.  Before delivering your alpha-male grip look to see if the hands are gnarled or the fingers are pointing in different directions. The fist to fist greeting is less dangerous but many older people can't make a fist.  Maybe you should just say "Hello".
