DARK HUMOR

If it weren't so scary, it could be the funniest show on TV.  Television advertising can be hilarious for it's absurdity.  Every auto insurer swears that if you switch to their company, you could save hundreds of dollars a year.  I wonder how many times you'd have to switch back and forth to have a zero premium.

The auto insurance bit is probably only worth a smile or a subdued guffaw.  The prescription drug commercials produce the same kind of leg slapping response we get from a good old banjo rip from a country band.  They are a type of humor you would expect from an undertaker: "Let us get rid of your problems".

When you have an itch or a runny nose, you want relief not an assisted suicide concoction.  I have witnessed reporters standing next to a pile of dead bodies report, with a smile, "The scene here is gruesome", but these listings of possible reactions to a drug are endless and scary.  The last one pronounced is usually "and possible death, though rare".  Say what?  Even if the spokesperson reflected some degree of concern for those who may have reactions, it would help, but the mandatory grin continues as though these effects are nothing to worry about.

If anyone has sloppy health habits that may lead to the necessity to use some of these drugs, these warnings should be a powerful incentive to practice my advice to my children growing up, "Don't get sick!".
