EMOTIONS

Emotions are  natural expressions or reactions to pleasant or unpleasant experiences.  The "E" part implies that they should be expressed externally and not be  repressed.  Emotions, although not intentional, reflect a truthful response words cannot express.  If, for this reason alone, if we wish to be truthful, they should not be repressed.  Those emotions which result in violence, in some circumstances should be controlled but in others, such as self defense, they aid the defense.  I do not trust people who repress all emotion.

Many emotions are made visible, expressed, by facial expression,( happiness a smile, displeasure a frown, sadness a blankness) while others are visible in the eyes. Still others are heard in the voice or felt from a blow. The method of translating the emotion into the external transmission is mysterious at best.  One of the most mysterious is a baby's smile.  How can a tiny, inexperienced creature know that when you scare the diaper off it with a "BOO" that you are not serious? Without any knowledge of the world, how can it have a sense of humor/

With the few exceptions where civilized living requires a degree of emotional control, I believe that besides being deceitful, overly suppressing emotions is unhealthy.  As recent generations have expressed it, 'LET IT ALL HANG OUT"
