"Social justice" is a noble goal only if it means to include only those incompetent in some way that their own efforts could not be adequate enough to provide for themselves. The term could be applied to individuals, groups or even entire nations. It should not mean forcefully taking from some to give to others for the simple goal of redistributing wealth. Many distribute their wealth voluntarily through charitable giving.
Man is a social animal. One of his most important assets is his fierce desire for independence. These two characteristics are at odds with each other. Within the framework of a society we have developed rules of behavior that allow each to exercise his independence while still functioning as a group. None is responsible to any other except on a voluntary basis. When assets are forcefully taken from some and given to others, except where there is need,, there will be resentment from the one from whom they were taken and a diminishing of pride and motivation in the receiver. Ironically, the receiver will often develop a dislike for the giver because he has deprived him of his pride thereby declaring him a failure.
Because of mans' nature, anything which deprives him of what he sees as his duty diminishes his self esteem and he will lash out at the person or system which does that. Instead of appreciation, it evokes resentment. Those who do not react in this fashion are free loaders and are happy to take but refuse to give.
We've seen this principle at work with our foreign aid programs. Many of the nations we give aid to despise us. No matter how else you try to explain that, it comes down to the simple truth that it looks to them as though we are saying they are failures and we are great. As much as they need the aid, they need their pride more.
