"Something"and "nothing" are both nouns.. Nouns are names of persons, places or things. " Something" is vague and indefinite while "nothing" is non-existent. If you say, "I have something to say", you can say it, but if you say, "I have nothing to say", you couldn't say it even if you wanted to.
We have many expressions which imply that "nothing" is really "something". A favorite expression of one of my sons when he has nothing to contribute to a conversation is, "I've got nothing". If that is what he has, where is it? "I don't have something" would be more accurate. How about, "I have nothing to wear"? Wear it , honey!
How can "nothing" be considered a person, place or thing? Non-existence is none of these, it is "no-thing" by definition, an absence of being at all., but maybe that is something. Some words just can't justify their existence at all. They fall into no category of speech we have defined but they have to be assigned a home. If "nothing" has to live somewhere, I suppose the noun house is as good a place as any. Think of it as "something" in disguise.
