WOW!

The accidents of life make a big difference.  One that occurred to me recently when I told my grandchildren that if my parents had not immigrated from Italy, they,my grandchildren, would not exist. is the fact that if the parents of EVERYONE alive today had different partners, no one alive today would have ever existed.  Isn't that scary?

It is the accidental things that make our world interesting.  When things are too predictable, boredom sets in.  Predictable story plots where you can often predict the next line or the punch line are no fun.  I recall a "Twilight Zone" episode in which a misanthrope wanted everyone to be just like him,  He discovered an ancient book that gave him that power.  Suddenly everyone looked, talked and thought exactly as he did.  No need to tell you that didn't work out.  Our differences are what make us interesting to each other. 

Again, the accidental things such as leaving your house just in time to have something happen to you that would not have happened if you had left a few minutes earlier or later is an example of how lives are changed, not by plan but, by accident.  It's not exactly like a surprise party but many accidental happenings are good and make life exciting. Serendipity is nifty.
