We all torture ourselves unnecessarily at some time. We know how that feels and it ain't good. Imagine what real torture might feel like. I have to chuckle when I hear someone say torture doesn't work. These are usually "experts" on the subject.. They could be right if they are talking about someone who is super brave or stupid, but I don't know anyone, especially me. who wouldn't give up everything they know just before they offered to remove my first finger nail.
For some, it is difficult to understand that if an enemy is to be "interrogated" they won't tell you much if you simply ask them a question. It's not like you're asking for directions to some destination, it's about something they really don't want to tell you. I've often wondered why they couldn't just hypnotise these guys but I'm sure they must have tried that. So, if hypnotism or polite questioning doesn't work, maybe we could find some trick questions to get information we need, you know, fool them into telling us stuff without their knowing they did. That could work on some dumb kid.
The "Golden Rule" doesn't work well when people are determined to kill you. I prefer the "Silver Rule": Do unto others as they do unto you. The enemy I'm talking about torture, be-head, blow up, terrorise and rape their enemies. They do not engage in polite conversation.. Until you recognise the enemy as INHUMAN, you want to treat them as though they are HUMAN. This distinction is easy to make in view of what brought them to be interrogated in the first place.
I do strongly object to torturing human beings.
