I used to be a regular church goer and still go with my lovely wife sometimes. When I was a regular and when I go now, I know that I'm visiting God at one of his many "homes". He greets me at the door and asks me to enter. Because I know I'm going to the "House of God", I have dressed in my very best clothes in a display of respect for my Host as I would if I were visiting human dignitaries, such as, let's say, my boss.
For me, seeing most of the attendees, who deserve credit for being there, are dressed for a backyard barbecue or a day at the beach in shorts, sometimes not too clean looking, revealing attire and flip-flops, I wonder, what are they thinking? Would anyone you know go to work looking like that? What kind of example is that for their children? "Don't worry, kids, it's only God we're going to visit.".
If you really do believe in God, and you know He's there waiting for you, He'll take you any way you come, He's that way, but a little respect shown by the way you dress, I'm certain, would please Him.
