Life and death are subjects which have mystified man since the beginning and yet they are quite simple to understand. Life is a gift from our Creator who expects us to use it in some useful way and death is the gateway to our reward if we please Him. If we make a sincere effort to do His bidding when on this earth, he will take us back to His house, if not, He has arranged other lodgings for us.
I know it has not been our way to celebrate death as we do a birth but they share similarities, each is the beginning of a new, but different, life. We spend more time grieving the loss of a family member or friend than we do in rejoicing over the fact that an old life is entering a more glorious existence, a rebirth. The notion that this part of our existence, earthly life, should be clung to with all our might reveals a disbelief, or at least some doubts, about what will follow. We anticipate a luxurious vacation with more zeal than we do an eternity with Him.
Even though we should and do miss those who leave us, there should also be a rejoicing that they have fulfilled their earthly obligations and, that as good or bad earthly life may have been, a better life awaits them.
