With such a widely varying number of opinions regarding almost any subject, we have to wonder how that happens. Seemingly intelligent people, presented with the same information, come to different conclusions. Each believes there is a flaw in the others logic. In science, there are actual facts and even there sometimes there are differences in interpreting facts, not just information.
Conclusions are reached based upon the premise, what you really believe or are willing to accept, informed by a view of the facts based upon those beliefs. People reach conclusions not upon the facts themselves but what they want them to mean. Inculcation, brainwashing and other repetitious techniques employed by educators and the various media instill a firm belief system which guides many impressions of the "truth". The eternal question, "What is truth?" Obviously, more often than not, the "truth" is what you want it to be.
In early America, the religious influences, primarily Judo-Christian, was the premise for much of the critical political and social truths. Today, the influential educational institutions and media are bent upon destroying that influence. I don,t know what their reasons are. What good can come from debasing a society? Those great empires of the past which fell into oblivion took that road and it lead to a cliff. Where are they now?
Unless we can restore those basic beliefs which made this country great, there is a gigantic cliff in our future.
