In any type of organization or community of any size, the more the participants have in common, the more conflict free it will be and liberty is not essential There is little to be free from... Conversely, the greater the differences, the more difficult it will be to make choices which will please or be accepted by everyone. This leads us to the recognition that within a diverse community, regulations and laws must be minimal and individual freedom maximal to preserve tranquility. Diversity divides only if the different factions are required to perform in a manner foreign to their principles and dictated by others. As long as the rights of others are not violated, the rule should be "to each his own".
The libertarian concept comes the closest to fulfilling this model but some of the extremes they espouse turn people off. Domestic liberties are something we have the power to monitor but when dealing with foreign regimes that are clearly radical America haters and are led by maniacal leaders, our leaders and representatives have the obligation to protect us. The "good guy" image we have had in the past where we waited to be attacked to defend ourselves has been replaced by common sense which says, "If someone is pointing a gun at you, shoot him before he shoots you". This is not a "quick draw" contest. There is no honor in being killed because of stupidity. Isolationism died a long time ago.
Freedom has many faces. Those things which affect us as individuals must have the widest range of freedom but those which affect us as a group must have differing ranges depending upon their critical level to our personal, community's or country's safety.
