DECENCY AND RESPECT

The tone and content of political campaigning by candidates, and those who speak on their behalf, reflects the worst in those who participate, and those who are on the sidelines cheering them on.  There is no justification for the kinds of personal, vulgar attacks, especially  toward women, which we have witnessed in recent years.  It's OK to point out character or policy flaws in a candidate but spouses, children and religion of a candidate would be considered off limits by any decent person. Even the code of a criminal organization forbid going after anyone's family. Those, on whose behalf these disgusting insults are made, even if they have no legal control over those who do this, should, if they are themselves decent, condemn and disown the action while apologising for it.  Even if the candidate pleads not guilty for the action, if they do not condemn and disown it, it is an implicit approval as if the candidate had said it.  Further, if any of these offenders make campaign donations, they should be rejected or returned.

Those who believe citizens give up their right to privacy just because they are public figures or celebrities are wrong.  Any court ruling which states otherwise is mistaken.  Nowhere in the constitution is there an exemption for any reason.  Privacy is guaranteed to ALL CITIZENS and like all other guarantees cannot be abridged.   Even if the "public figure" standard is applied, the family of the person are not "public figures" and they have a right to privacy as individuas. Public records are fair game but private lives, where privacy is expected, the guarantee applies to everyone.

The awesome right to free speech has no limits by law but common decency requires that we censor ourselves at appropriate times.  Those deviant citizens who can't hold an intelligent discussion about something and find humor only in insulting, mocking or degrading people or using filthy language, should get a prescription for "normal and nice" pills.  As a wise observer of the human condition once pronounced, "You can't fix stupid" and I add, "You can't make a pig into a human..".

As long as there are creeps and cowards among us, they will, to hide their own inadequacies, try to diminish and hurt others, like school yard bullies. All these people have several body parts which describe them perfectly.

I'm John Carone and I approve this blog!
