FAIRNESS

We hear a lot of talk these days about "fairness".  Actually, like beauty, "fairness" is in the eyes of the beholder.  The fairness politicians speak about is in the eyes of the one who has something to gain.  Imagine an olympic gold medal winner dividing his medal and giving some to the silver and bronze winners or even the last place finisher. This "fairness" rewards some by taking from others: fair to the taker, unfair to the victim.

What's not fair as that the courts have ruled that lying is a form of free speech.  The lie is OK, apparently, if no one is injured or there is no gain from telling it.  What kind of a lie is that?  Those are usually the reasons people lie.  OK, sometimes they lie to avoid hurting someone's feelings but those would not come to the attention of the court.

Candidates for political office frequently, if not always, lie about their opponent to injure or even about themselves to enhance their chances of winning and therefore obtaining something of value. Those who lie about heroic military deeds (STOLEN VALOR) to obtain votes are the lowest kinds of life forms.  The only difference here is that these characters would be speechless if they couldn't lie and there could be no campaign.  I think they should all take an oath, like in a courtroom, before they speak and be charged with "contempt of the PEOPLE", just as they are for lying to Congress.  Someone wake me up, I must be dreaming.

Free speech is a wonderful thing because it allows me to vent my anger and disappointment so I don't have to resort to violence for satisfaction. I feel better now. Besides, what would I do if everything were perfect?
