VICTIMS OF WAR and COLLATERAL DAMAGE

War is HELL!  No American enjoys war or the thought of war.  Maybe that's why every official effort we make against bad behavior, like drugs, is called a "WAR" on something or other.  In real wars, real people fight and are injured and killed.  Often, many of those injured and killed are not combatants but innocent bystanders who were in the wrong place at the wrong time.  They have nothing to do with the fighting and their involvement is coincidental, the so-called "collateral damage". The military, who actually do the fighting, do so at great risk and sacrifice, as do their families.  Their rewards are those intangibles which make them proud to be Americans.  They do it voluntarily, willingly.

In many ways, we can compare the threat of the financial state of our country today, which could rock the very foundation of our nation, to an attack from a foreign power.  Our fighters are our people, at least those who volunteer to make the necessary sacrifices to win this battle.  They are the "collateral victims" of the financial war we are facing.  Those who refuse can be likened to "draft dodgers" of years ago, those who refused to serve in defense of their country.  Unfortunately, there are too many who blindly and, they will discover in the end, wrongly cling to unsustainable demands from our government.  The sacrifices required don't come close to those our military and their families proudly make for our benefit.

This fight is against exorbitant taxation and spending.  It can be won by reasonable people and with the expectation that their sacrifices will help to create a better place for their children and grandchildren.  There is also a reasonable expectation that reversal of the current trend could benefit many of us almost immediately.  Investors have tons of cash poised to go to work as soon as they are assured of some kind of certainty and stability for the future so the risks they take are not moving targets.
