LONG DIVISION

The rhetoric says "unify" but the actions say "divide".  What is it called when politicians and political analysts and commentators speak about groups of people as "constituencies"?  When they divide us into young and old, white, black and Hispanics, male and female, rich, middle class or poor and so on, they are making the statement that we are different, do not want the same things.  They plant the seed of division  just by their words. They are bigots when they do something for or against a group  based upon some accidental characteristics..  If we aspire to the same things, and most of us do, we are the same, just humans trying to achieve the best we can under our own power.

Blacks who voted for BO only because he is black, are racists as much as whites who voted against him for the same reason.  Those who voted for him only for "free stuff", are a drag on the rest of the people. Until more of us become concerned about the future and survival of our country, those who do not will be our albatross.

To be "fair and give everyone a shot" at being a good citizen, I propose that every working American and anyone who receives a government check for any reason or has pension payments, pay $2 a week as a "contribution" for the purpose of paying down our debt.  To be sure this system would not become permanent, like so many "temporary taxes" have, they should expire when the debt level reaches a certain point in relation to other fiscal conditions.  I believe many, not all, would feel better if they were contributing something toward resolving our serious debt problem.
