When observing the sharp contrast in political philosophies which divide our country right down the middle, it is apparent that if we gave half the country to each philosophy, we'd have two happy, internally united countries. If the current climate continues, it might not be a bad idea. Why should we live with half our population dissatisfied for four years at a time?
The Constitution was intended to unite us around principles we all agreed to. It worked for many years until those who swore to defend it chose, instead, to bend it. Those who do not agree to abide by the Constitution and prefer to change its intent by corrupt judiciary instead of the amendment process provided in the Constitution, are the ones who have created this dilemma. It is unfortunate that we, the people, are not able to fight our own government's theft of our liberties because of the complexities and legal roadblocks to reform. Christ himself opposed the religious leaders of his time for placing obstacles between the people and God.
In our country, armed revolution is out of the question because of our military might. Our ballots used to be our bullets but those we elect have legislated flack jackets for themselves and left us guns without ammunition.
Only if we return to strict adherence to the Constitution and its amendments, can we regain some degree of unity. The title of this piece is facetious. No one wants to see this country physically divided but if we remain divided on the definition of the role of government ,in compliance with the Constitution, we will not survive.
