If I were to say that today's social problems stem from FREEDOM, all my friends would think I 'd gone nuts, but it is true.
Freedom has many faces, not all of them good. Individual liberty, bestowed upon us by our Creator, is a freedom to choose our own behavior but with the willingness to endure the consequences of those choices. In other words, freedom could result in good or bad actions and therefore came with responsibilities and accountability.
The sixties were fabulous years, "they say". It was an era of "liberation", "they say". The problem is that people liberated themselves from moral and responsible choices, not from tyranny. While declaring themselves FREE from morality and decency, they also embraced the slavery of detachment from reality and responsibility and government dependency. Freedom is useless unless used for the right purposes.
Our Constitution is to our government what the Ten Commandments are to Jewish and Christian religions. Our laws which forbid certain behaviors, under penalty of punishment, stem almost entirely from the admonishments of the Ten Commandments. They spell out what behavior is acceptable to God and our government. They describe rules which, if followed, are most likely to lead to the peaceful coexistence of people and societies and which would please Him.
It is unfortunate that the thing we cherish most and which can make us the happiest is the same thing which can destroy us. Our enemies exploit our freedom to harm us and WE let them. Western religious values made our country the greatest in the history of man and, unless we don't care enough to restore it, we must return to those guiding principles.
