Usually, when someone tries to predict the future, we snicker behind their back, This time it is easier than ever and you heard it here first.
Current events often give a glimpse of the future. Sometimes in a hazy way but sometimes, like now, it is crystal clear. The policies of this administration will telescope events which might have occurred over a ten or fifteen year period of time into an almost instantaneous reality.
The burden of business regulations and those which involve human capital, unions, pensions and health care costs will drive every company, whose activity allows, into a completely or optimum computerized mode of operation. By eliminating human costs and substituting automation wherever possible, even where the costs might now seem high, it will still become less expensive to operate. No business person, especially if they are obligated to stake holders, will be able to resist this change.
We can already see lay-offs, curtailing work hours and eliminating or reducing benefits. When this no longer is enough or productivity starts to suffer, there will be machines!
My advice to any young person, not too far along to turn back, is to look for careers in areas which cannot easily cut out human workers. For young men, this may mean the trades or professions. The least necessary jobs seem to be the safest, entertainment and sports.
