POWER AS AN INTOXICANT

Power in the wrong hands is a terrible thing.  This is especially true when it is the power of government.  Other less dangerous examples are sports and entertainment celebrity.

We're all familiar with celebrities who turn wild once they discover they can do almost anything no matter how vile, stupid or cruel, and get away with it.  As reprehensible as they may be, they rarely hurt us and eventually destroy themselves.

Political power, even more than celebrity power, can and often does, fall into the hands of those who are not accustomed to leading.  Much like the adolescent who sneaks his first alcoholic drink, they are not ready for what lies ahead.  Those who are accustomed to power will do anything, and I mean anything, to keep it.  He and others, forget that our system was intended for a sharing of power to avoid tyrannical actions by any one branch of government.

Our President is one of those who had been NOTHING his whole life. I'm certain he was the most surprised person in the country when he discovered how easy it was to deceive people and win them over with false promises.  When he was elected the first time and he had a taste of what power he had and how easy it was to intimidate with that power, he went hog wild, like some actors and actresses we've seen.

My conclusion is that this President, in a display of the arrogance which comes with having won battles with sheer power, believes he is invincible and can have his way much as a dictator.  His tone in speech and facial expressions reminds me of Mussolini and Hitler when they gave speeches.  I can sense the tide turning against him among his supporters who also feel he picks fights unnecessarily in a display of raw power bent more on crushing his opponents than governing.  We deserve better.  We deserve better.  We deserve better!
