ARE WE AS SMART AS WE THINK WE ARE?

We humans have come a long way since our beginning, whatever, however and whenever that was. Any objective observer would have to agree with that.  The question is, is it a good or bad thing?

I am a big believer in the natural world.  My belief comes not from respecting nature itself, but the force which is responsible for it.  That force seems to have had a plan.  Some say our intelligence was meant to help us find ways to improve on nature but we could argue that the inetlligence was given to see if we were smart enough to not tinker with it.  The force which is powerful enough to make all this would certainly have made it perfect, a Garden of Eden.

It has become more and more certain that humans are their own worst enemy.  Not apparent in the beginning but the signs are here now which predict a gradual deterioration of the natural and societal environments necessary for humans to survive.  In so many ways, advances we have made in extending life and other technologies have changed the nature of man, not always for the better.

Anthropogenic changes have taught us how to grow old, do less physical work and indulge in every decadant behavior we could imagine.  Whether it will help or harm mankind remains to be seen.  What do you think?
