The state of BEING has been examined and written about by philosophers in the past. It seems that "being" is not a constant state but is always in flux. Being consists of two parts, actual, what you see is what you get, and potential being. Potential being is all the the things anything can become. For example, a tree is actually a tree when it is being a tree but it can be firewood, furniture, a house, etc.. It contiues to exist in a different state of being.
When things move through their potential states of being, the old being is gone but it still has being. The example of the tree can apply to almost everything. The human sperm and ovum are in actual being sperm and ovum. Individually, they have no potential being. Together they have the potential of being an embryo, fetus, infant, child and adult human. If they do not collide, their being has apparently ended. If they should "hook up" and they transform into all the stages of their combined potential being, a baby is born. In the case of abortion, the potential being stages never develope and being, in this world, comes to an end.
The question of the day is, "When the potential of a being has been aborted, is that action equivalent to destroying any and all of the beings which would have been?"
