I often hear critics of oil companies and certain actions we have taken use the slogan "it's all about oil" like it's a bad thing. It is all about oil. Without oil, the world would come to a screeching halt! Without energy all the high-tech stuff we all rely upon would not be operable. It is bad enough that we would lose all that but most people under 50 wouldn't have the back up experience to function effectively without hi-tech.
Our security, economy and daily living needs would suffer unimaginable harm. We'd return to the 1920's overnight. When a storm takes down power lines for days or weeks at a time we have a microcosm of what our country would look like without oil.
The sad part about this story is that we have in our country the resources to supply our needs. Our president and misguided but powerful eco-nuts have prevented those with the knowledge and ability to extract the oil here in our country and off-shore from recovering those resources. It's like having fuel oil for your furnace in the dead of winter but because you're stingy won't turn on the heat and proceed to freeze to death. They are equally stupid actions.
If we do not become energy independent. we cannot imagine what food prices and those of other necessities will look like. We've all seen pictures of refugees fleeing famine and wars and we've all seen the health problems brought on by poverty and malnutrition, is that where we want to go? Even now, we have an economic condition that nullifies the supply/demand pricing scenario. High supply/low demand equals low prices. Low supply/ high demand equals high prices. Today we have a condition where prices are rising even though demand is falling. The prices are rising because of the cost of energy.
Even if you despise big oil and capitalists in general, you had better pray that our government allows our companies to drill or protect our interests anywhere in the world where our security is threatened by the loss of necessary energy producing products.
