We can each describe what a perfect world would be for US. It would be different in some respects for each of us. Most of us understand that nothing is all good or all bad. If we want to progress, we must decide if the bad is acceptable in order to take advantage of the good.
Walking is good, but you might be run over by a car, fall or get mugged. Should you give up walking? Medical mistakes kill thousands of people each year. If you have a heart attack should you ignore it?
Our world, like it or not, is dependent upon energy sources, such as oil, to drive our economies. Nearly every human endeavor depends upon energy. If you want to go to California from New Jersey, you drive to the airport, fly to California, use some conveyance to take you to your destination then walk into an air-conditioned dwelling. If you play, you may plug in your guitar. If you want to see some of the beauty of California, you drive along the ocean.
But oil drilling is potentially harmful to some parts of the environment. Using oil products pollutes the air. The sight of oil rigs and ocean platforms is destroying beautiful views. Oil spills damage wild life and pollute the water.
Without oil, we would have a pristine environment, crystal clear waters, less air pollution and beauty as far as the eye can see. Wild life would be safe. But without oil, we couldn't drive to the airport, fly to California, drive to an air-conditioned dwelling, plug in our guitars or drive along the ocean to see the beauty.
Which of these is your "perfect" world?
