ANYONE CAN RUN

In our country, anyone with minimal qualifications can run for elected, public office.  What we know about these candidates is what they tell us and what their opponents and enemies can find out about them.  Some already have a history of some kind which can be examined and evaluated while others are almost completely without experience.

While the qualifications required by law reveal nothing about the abilities of the candidate, that is really the most important thing we should know about them.  There are ways to know something about that.  There could be some independent testing service which would, although not required by law, examine candidates, especially for the presidency, to evaluate the aptitude and knowledge desirable for that position.  It would be voluntary but those refusing would create doubt in the minds of voters so the pressure to participate would be enormous.  We  test applicants to attend college, why not for the presidency?
