WRITE IT DOWN

Each of us has feelings, thoughts, ideas and opinions.  Most of what rattles around in our brain comes from some vague impression of events, rumor, the skeleton of a thought or partial knowledge.  Because we are busy with everyday life, we rarely pause to reflect, understand and put some flesh on them.  Many of them linger just below our consciousness, put aside for another time.

It is truly amazing and rewarding when you try to write about some of these things, when you are suddenly forced to try to understand them and find just the right words to express them. It's like teaching, you can't leave anything out.  You've heard the word "catharsis" applied to writing a journal or painting pictures and other forms of expression.  It really works.  Having to finally put these things into some kind of expression in a thoughtful way gives a kind of comfort.   It's almost like remembering a name you had forgotten. You can get stuff off your chest (disbosom), understand better some of the things you've felt or thought about fleetingly but never really analyzed.  When you have to express them, especially in writing, in a logical way that others can understand, you understand yourself better.  It's like talking to yourself without the stigma.

Sometime, pick a few things which really bug you or make you happy and write about them.  At first, because we've been so casual and semi-detached, the right words are hard to find.  Sometimes profanity comes to mind but resist that.  You  don't have to please anyone but yourself and it FEELS GOOD.
